Temple Kol Ami's spiritual leader, Rabbi Daniel Komito Gottlieb, is one of seven Canadian-born rabbis serving Reform Congregations in Canada at the present time, having been born in Toronto and raised in the Reform Movement. Upon his ordination in 1980 from the Leo Baeck College in London, England, Rabbi Gottlieb returned to Toronto, serving as Associate Rabbi/Director of Education at Temple Har Zion in Thornhill and then as Executive Director of the Canadian Council for Reform Judaism and ARZA-Canada.
Rabbi Gottlieb is well known in our community, having served as Chairman of the Reform Educators' and Supplementary School Educators' Councils, Reform Rabbis of Greater Toronto, CCAR-Canada, and as a member of the Executive of the Leo Baeck Day School. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Toronto and Thornhill Community Mikvehs, Kolel and several Reform congregations, including Temple Kol Ami.
Rabbi Gottlieb is the Rabbinic Coordinator of the Jewish Information Class and a member of the Executive of the Toronto Board of Rabbis. Rabbi Gottlieb serves on the North American Board of ARZA/World Union of Progressive Judaism, and the Reform Movement's Commission on Religious Education. Recently, he was honoured with the title of "Founding Rabbi" of Camp George, in recognition of his contribution to the establishment of our Canadian Reform Movement's summer camp.
A friend of Temple Kol Ami since its inception, Rabbi Gottlieb is an integral and loved part of this congregation.
